GATEWAY TECHNICAL COLLEGE : BOILER PLANT UPGRADE

Racine, Wisconsin

project profile

Size: n/a
Project Cost: $1.2 million
Completion Date: 2013

Project Scope:
conditions assessment : energy efficient : accelerated schedule

Composed of four major buildings, the Racine Campus is the largest campus of the Gateway Technical College. IBC Engineering Services conducted a thorough assessment of the campus boiler plant in order to address the capital maintenance program as it relates to major equipment, such as chillers, boilers, air handlers, etc.

Our findings concluded that the existing 40-year-old system was inefficient, and in many cases, not functioning properly. Work included replacement of the existing hot water boilers with new high efficiency boilers, as well as the consolidation of two major heating mechanical rooms to one major mechanical room. With the new system, annual gas energy savings is expected to be in excess of $30,000, and operation savings in excess of $5,000.

The $1.2 million upgrade was carefully timed to be completed in seven months in time for the Wisconsin heating season.
