Second City UP Comedy Club - ChicagoChicago, Illinois
Size: 8,000 SF
Project Cost: $3,500,000
Completion Date: 2012
Complete new MEP systems, upgrade to building utilities, and coordination with theater and audio/visual consultants.
When the long running Tony and Tina’s Wedding dinner theater show in Chicago’s historic Piper’s Alley closed in 2011, neighbor and world famous comedy theater, The Second City, stepped in to acquire the space and grow their brand and entertainment offerings. This project involved a complete facelift of the dated theater and conversion from an interactive dinner theater setting to a state of the art stage performance venue.
Upgrades included all new energy efficient HVAC systems, house lighting design, and kitchen design for the associate food service element including kitchen ventilation equipment and full rough-in for electrical and plumbing. Air supply systems were sized and tailored to a theater setting with consideration given to varying occupancy loads and sensitive sound levels. Close coordination with the audio/visual consultant and stage lighting consultant resulted in a high quality and high performing addition to this legendary comedy establishment.
